I pray you had a blessed Christmas with safe travels for all. Thank you all for the generous gifts. They are appreciated.

Just a reminder that the quarter ends one week after we come back to school. I hope to get all of the incomplete work when we come back on Monday, and also keep going on the AR books, time is almost up!

Happy New Year!

CHRIST IS BORN! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS! SEE YOU tomorrow and NEXT YEAR!

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Today we talked about using scientific notation for very small numbers today. We also went through the service one last time. Then Mrs. Pankratz came to help us with a very special art project. THANKS MRS. PANKRATZ!

Please remember to have your student dress up for our service tomorrow.

Today we looked at subtracting mixed units. As long as you remember to borrow the correct units, it is't too hard. We also looked at dependant clasues that are introduced by words other than subortination conjunctions. Don't worry, we did the assignment in class. We also looked at how we measure the magnitude of earthquakes and some of the ways they can affect people. Ask your child what to do if the water on the shore of the ocean suddenly goes away.

Please remind your student to dress up for our service on Wednesday. We want to look our best to glorify God.

See you tomorrow at WLA, I have been assured that the kids will know their lines and speak with enthusiasm tomorrow. Help them review if you have time.

We did some work with averages in math today, and in English we worked on independent and dependant clauses. Because some clauses can not stand on their own, they have to be connected to another clause that can stand alone. Because if we didn't. (See how that makes no sense by itself?)

For Science we did a Jeopardy style review.

Today we had a special presentation from the Agricultural Ambassador. We learned more about the new food pyramid and dairy's place on it. Check out www.mypryamid.gov for more information.

We also looked at clauses today, and how to find how many are in a sentence.
Presents for the classroom exchange can be brought in any time next week.

The students today were very excited to see each other. Unfortuantly, they were not as enthusiastic about following the rules and using their time wisely. We are going to work on it. We talked about how to do math operations in the correct order. We even learned to Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. In English we continued to work on verbals since learning how to use verbals can be a challenging task. In literature we started a new story about a girl from Earth who is now living on Venus.

There have been a few questions regarding Christmas gift exchange this year so I thought I'd better re-explain directly to you. We will not be exchanging names. Each girl will bring a gift for a girl and each boy will bring a gift for a boy. I will then number then and the students will draw numbers and that will be the gift they get, as long as it isn't their own. We are still looking for gifts of around $5, same as in past years.
Today we talked about the music we listen to. We then sang some music while we practiced for the Christmas service. We are doing well, but relying on the sheets to much. Please run through the words for the service and song with your students if you are able to help them commit everything to memory. We did some scientific notation today in math and took a science test. We also are reading "The Ransom of Red Chief".

Busy day today. We started off the day with the flu vaccine. We had time for a very short Christ Light lesson. For English we got the assignment from yesterday's lesson. This combined with a quick math lesson gave us a very long study period. Good thing too, since there was a lot to do in English. We seem to still be working on spacing out longer assignments since many students were working on the artist worksheets that are due tomorrow. There is nothing wrong with that except that it cuts into the time I had intended for them to get English done.

The play today was excellent. We had a good time and brought back the same number of students that we left with.

Advent services begin tomorrow. Please be aware that after school before church, my children and I are trying to get work done before the service. If any of the 7th graders want to stay in the room and work until church, I am happy to allow them to. However, if they are not going to be working quietly, please make other arrangements for them.
