Today we are reviewing chapters 8 and 9 in science. Erosion! We also looked at sales tax, unit price, and tips. We are reviewing participles one more time before we get into gerunds on Wednesday.

Remember our field trip tomorrow. Pack some snacks and water, and some money for fast food on the way home. Don't forget to wear your Faith shirt!

Today we divided some decimals, took a science test, and learned about participles. (They look like verbs but act like adjectives, such as running water.) We also saw one more version of the Christmas Carol in preparation for our field trip on Tue.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving. Drive safely and give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.

Mid-terms should have one home today, please sign and return. If you want to keep it, feel free to send a note or just cut off the bottom. Thanks!

Our math lesson was very short which left lots of room for study time. Our English lesson was part two, so that left lots of room for study time. Since we did pretty well with those study times, we did a fun review of Vivaldi and Van Gogh. After lunch they students were given a study guide for science for the test tomorrow. The study guide this time, is in fact the test with the questions and answer choices in a different order. The test scores were very poor last time. Hopefully the students will use their study guides to get those scores up. In lit. the students were on their own for the next chapters this time.

Look for mid-terms to be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return the envelope letting me know you saw it. Thanks!

I am moving the science test to Wed. We had a few more review sheets today. We did some easy conversions in math today. In English the students need to write a short essay on the oral lecture we had on Friday. In lit. we found Zero, but was it in time?

Today we practiced our song for Sunday! Please be here by 7:30 for a warm up. This song needs lots of energy, and so far we have gotten that, but only on the third time through. We also tried to draw on the right side of our brains by copying a Picasso drawing, but doing it upside down! We also worked with repeating decimals. We also got Stanley and Zero out in the dessert with no water or food. What will they do? On top of all that, can you believe it, we started on the Christmas service. It is closer than you think! :-) Anyhow . . .

Today Zero ran away from camp, but he will be ok, really he will. We learned about waves, currents and tides. We also looked at the distributive property. 3(2+4) = 3 x 2 + 3 x 4
We also studied El Nino and what that might mean for our weather this winter.

The science tests were handed back today. The test grades were quite poor. It seems that some of the students did not use the study guide, as they were unable to put down anything for the short answer section. When we finish this chapter, we will go back and review both chapters together.

Today, passive and active tenses were looked at by us, again. In math the pretest was worked on and corrected by us, and the final test will be taken by us tomorrow. More of the history of Green Lake was learned about in lit class, and the science test was also taken.

Don't forget the thesis is due this week. A thesis promotes an idea, not just stating a place.

Lots of people need lunch tickets. Please ask your student. The list on the side has been updated as well.
We saw the WLA play today. Ask your student about it. We are also re-doing or touching up our Christ-Light tests. The students are having trouble taking the passage, figuring out its meaning and applying it to their lives. We will keep working at it. In math we took a look at angles and how they relate to teach other.

Today we took our Christ Light test. The books were much better done this time around I am happy to say. Unfortunately, it seems that some of the students missed the explanation of the Christ Light test that I gave, and that was on this blog, so I do not know how the test went. We shall see! We did some ratios 11/13 = x/24 (cross multiply and divide) and we did a jeopardy style game to review for science.

Hello again. The ants were marching one by one today, figuratively. We also talked about glaciers and a LOT of vocab words were involved. Passive verbs were also talked about by us. (I put that sentence in the passive form, as opposed to the active we talked about passive verbs.) We also practiced finding the area of triangles. (1/2 base times height) On top of all that, we got Stanley to find something interesting but he had to give it to X-Ray.

Tomorrow is the 8th grade play at 1:30 (or Thursday night.) We look forward to that.

Friday we are going to the WLA play. Since the school will be covering the cost of the bus to get there, you don't need to send any money.

The artist composer are both due on Friday. There seems to be some confusion about that. If anyone has the composer done by Wednesday, that is fine, too!

We started a new section in science today. We are talking about some of the other forces of erosion. We also looked at probability in math. The students enjoyed using the smart board to spin a spinner. We are still working on verb tenses, and we heard more about Stanley's time at Camp Green lake.

Today we got to perform Kid's Life. We also got to learn about the 4 principal parts of verbs and progressive and emphatic forms. You decide which was more fun. We also wrapped up our science unit, so we will review tomorrow and take a test on Friday. The math pretest will be tomorrow and the final test will be on Friday as well.

Have you checked out spellingcity.com yet? Remind your student that there is more than just hang mouse! I also set up an account for 5th grade and 3rd grade for my children to use. If you have children in those grades feel free to use it as well. I can't guarantee that the lists will always be there though. If anyone wanted to help add lists, please let me know.

Today we talked about how to prevent soil erosion. We also started our new novel. We don't know why Stanley got arrested, but we do know he is going to a not very nice place. We also got a chance to practice what we learned yesterday about the parts of verbs. Add to that more work with decimals and a good play practice and we had a full day! We are looking forward to our performance tomorrow. Join us.

Over the weekend I was able to add two more technological tools into your child's arsenal. First of all I have registered with a site called spellingcity (there is a link on the side of this page). This site allows me to enter the spelling lists from our book for each unit. The students are then able to go to that site and search for our lists by teacher. The site will then teach the student how the word is pronounced, spelled, and use the word in a sentence. The site will also create many different kinds of spelling games using our specific list. It looks like this could be a neat tool.

I also was able to get the code for the on-line science book. This allows the students to access an on-line version of their text book. (Mrs. Neubauer has already given them the code for the Geography book.) There is a link on the side of this page for that as well. Your student was given the code today. It is also on the link on the side.

I learned about some interesting tools at conference last week as well. I will look to try out some of those as time allows. I will keep you updated.
