Evening! I apologize for the lateness of this blog, but at least it is on the right day this time! We are done with conferences and I thank all of you for taking time out to come and discuss your child's education. I can't do it with out you!

I hope you are enjoying the small homework load this week, but don't get too used to it!

Good Morning! My apologies for not blogging last night, but my thanks to you as well. With your help we got through 17 Parent-student-teacher conferences without getting too far behind.

With the short week there will be no spelling. However, students are welcome to work ahead if time allows. I would also encourage students to do some reading over their long weekend and get a jump start on those AR points.

Pastor will not be in this week, but students still will write some memory work for him first thing this morning.

We took our spelling test and math test today. The math test went well, hopefully the spelling test went as well.

Today we took our science test. Since we didn't have as much time to reveiw as I wanted yesterday, I allowed the students to take the test with an assigned partner. Some groups did very well, and the class averaged a C. We also took the math pretest with partners today, and that went very well, so we should be good to go for the real thing tomorrow. Please remind your student to take his time and avoid simple mistakes. The daily work seems to be filled with simple addition mistakes and the like.

You should have received a note letting you know when your student - parent - teacher conference time is. If you haven't please ask your student for it. As you can see, it is a very tight schedule, so we will need to keep the conferences to 15 minuets. If we need more time to discuss anything, an additional meeting can be arranged.

It was a bit of a mixed up day today, but we did manage to do some rounding and look at different kinds of maps. I looked over all of the rough drafts today and got all most all of them back to the students with comments. Hopefully that will help improve the overall final quality. There was some discussion of having the final copy of everything due tomorrow, but we will stick with the original plan of Thursday. I had also planned to have our Christ Light passages due Thursday but with pastor having some due for Catechism, I think it wise to move those to Friday in place of the hymn.

MUSIC PROGRAM AND AR ARE DUE NEXT THURSDAY.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Today we went through the study guide for the science test. We also worked through a math pre-test. Some of the class practiced for the play while the rest of the class got some lab time to work on their English paper. In Christ light we finished our discussion on abortion. In literature we got to see Scrooge's Christmas present.

AR and music cd are due next Thursday!
A note went home today for Parent/Student/Teacher conference. Please fill out and return. If it is possible with your schedule, please sign up for Monday and Tuesday rather than Wednesday. Thanks.

We learned a bit about impressionism today. We also had practice for the musical. We finished act one of The Christmas Carol and finished our science section. Busy day! As for the behavior, while it wasn't perfect (they are 7th graders after all) there certainly was an effort made to improve it!

Behavior today was much better. Unfortunately, it was very much a law based change. I pray that the behavior can stay improved but that the motivation will move to a gospel motivation. In other words, I hope we will behave because we want to and because it is the right thing to do instead of because we are afraid of punishment.

The students got their geography maps back today. It seems that the results were mixed. Some students did a great job and knew where most things were, while some, unfortunately, did not put in the same effort. Let's all use our God given talents to the best of our ability!

Today we talked about renewable and non-renewable resources. We discussed the pros and cons of each. We also heared a little of The Christmas Carol but Scrooge is still a miser, so far. We also heard more about the war in Afghanistan and the earth quakes that happened last night. On top of all that we learned that NASA has discovered a new, huge ring around Saturn.

I am very sad to report that today we hit a new low for behavior, including disturbing several other classes. We also continued to miss vital information because we were not listening during class. The saddest part was that the behavior continued through out the day and failed to improve despite repeated discussions and consequences. Good thing the Lord forgives these sins of disrespect and selfishness.

We took the science test today. I look forward to seeing how we did! We reviewed some sentences in English, but today they weren't all pattern one. In health we discussed emotional needs and how people sometimes act in undesireable ways when their emotional needs are not met. We looked at how we can improve our own behavior. We also discussed that our self worth is founded on Christ's love for us.

Today we suffered from testing backlash. Now that the tests are done, the behavior deteriorated unfortunately. We did have a chance to look over the last research papers and review what can be done better. Students should look in their books back at unit 17 for help with the papers. Clearly, some are not doing some. However, there were some very good papers as well. Keep up the good work. The next paper is using three sources and everything will be due next Wednesday.

We also finished our section on rocks. We will do some review tomorrow and will take the test next week.

We also finished our Christ Light book on how we can get along better with other people. Today we discussed how to respond to people who think creation is foolish, and I got a lot of blank stares. This would be a good discussion to continue at home.
