Today we heard an update about some of NASA's space missions. We also had a visit from LPS. We took a math test and watched some Hamlet as well.

Keep working on those rough drafts. Make it as close to the final copy as possible!

Today we took some time to do some work on our science project. Some of the students encountered some technology issues and ended up working on other homework during that time. The project shouldn't take long to do. We are going to present tomorrow, so please remind them to make sure they get their information tonight. Thanks!

We were back at it again today. We started talking about the two different types of optical telescopes. We also looked at some more of our country prezis. We also worked on multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers. If there are two positive or two negative numbers, the answer is positive. If the signs are different, then the answer is negative. Remember this is only for multiplying and dividing not adding or subtracting.
We also went through the English outlines today. If the outline was on time and contained some detail it got an A+. This doesn't mean that it is perfect, final copy ready. Many of the outlines still need more details to be finished.

Are you enjoying the beautiful, tropic weather? I hope so because it isn't going to last. Oh well. A permission slip came home from Mr. Herkstroeter today. Look for that and please send it back tomorrow if at all possible. Thanks! Today we wrapped up our project and started another section in science. We are looking at our impact on water and air. We also started learning about Richard Wagner. We listened to some musical selections and even had Bugs Bunny help us out. We also spent some time relearning about outlines. Our outline is due tomorrow and when I looked at some of the students' outlines I noticed that we had some things to review. We also finished going through Hamlet. I am sure I enjoyed it more than they did, but they had some laughs along the way. (It will make Romeo and Juliet easier in high school!)

Ahhh, so we meet again. Welcome back. So nice to have you.  First of all, let me say that it is a good thing to see so many students bringing water bottles to keep hydrated during the day. Anything we can do to help them stay healthy is great. However, do please speak to your student about not using the water bottle as a toy or distraction, or eating the drink packets straight up. Thanks!

Hello Wednesday! Today we took a look at our last section in science. We talked about reducing, reusing and recycling in order to reduce our impact on the land. (We'll tackle water and air in the next chapter.) We also combined geography and music and learned about some instruments and music from Africa. In math we worked on the pretest for our test next week.

Welcome to Tuesday. We crammed quit a bit in today and got some important information.
The students may hand out valentines tomorrow at lunch time if they wish.

As part of our ongoing process of becoming a Google Apps for Education (GAFE) school, I have set up Google accounts for the 7th and 8th graders to use for their research papers. This will allow them to work on it more easily at school and at home. If they share it with me correctly, I am also able to help them during the writing process. It would be helpful if they would use Google Docs as they work on the rough draft but they may also write it by hand. The final copy should be done in the Google however. The Google account also comes with email. However, the email feature is not totally set up yet. As such students may not receive any email at this time. There are no plans to change this until summer. Also, I have set it up that they may only send emails to accounts that end in @faithlutheranfdl.org. So, essentially, the only people the students can email is the staff. I went through the basics of how to access the account and share the document today at the end of the day, but I am sure we will go over it again. Kind of exciting!

Welcome back. Today we looked at the impact our growing population has on the earth. This fit in very well with what we have been talking about in geography and even used some of the same terms. Speaking of geography, we tried our Africa presentations again and did much better this time around. Good job! We also looked more at writing scientific notation correctly, and how to fix it when it is done incorrectly.

Welcome one and all to the extravaganza that is 7th grade. Today we checked out pollution in the ocean. Most of it actually starts on the land! We also discussed how dirt could actually be polution. Then we took another swing at our geography project. We will spend a little more time on it tomorrow and see where we are at. For math we took our test. Hopefully we worked carefully. I noticed on our assignment for today that we had several cases of doing the wrong problem, subtracting instead of adding, multiplying wrong and the like. Hopefully we didn't do any of that on our test!

Today we started having Mr. Herkstroeter supervising recess so I could answer math questions during recess. I got no takers today, but Thursday will present another opportunity.

Welcome back to school after Super Bowl weekend. I think the class was still pumped up from the big game. Hopefully tomorrow we will be back into the swing of school. We presented our geography projects today. Unfortunately we had a tough time following the directions and putting enough thought into the different parts. I think we will need to take another crack at it. In math today we had mixed results. While most of the class got a B or better, we are still struggling with being consistently careful with our calculations. Our lesson today was on ratios where we knew the total but had to find one of the parts. Fortunately, we solve them pretty much the same way that we solve the other kind. Unfortunately, many in the class did not take advantage of the extra work time to work on math or ask questions. Remember that starting tomorrow, I will be staying in the room during recess on Tuesdays and Thursdays in order for interested students to have a chance to get more help on math. We also finished our Christ Light book and will be starting a new one on Thursday.

For our field trip on Friday, please have the students dress nicely. Also, remember to send money along for lunch. Thanks!
