Great to meet with so many of you last night. I look forward to seeing the rest of you tonight!

We spent a good chunk of time today talking about the research papers (which everyone has gotten back now) and the Living History night. I also gave them the LH paperwork again in case they needed it.

Today I read The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe to the class. I have a lot of fun with that one. So much so that Mr. H. popped his head in the room to see what all the racket was about! :-)

I'll see the majority of you later tonight!

Happy Friday! I look forward to seeing all of you next week Monday and Tuesday. Today we took our science test. Based on how quickly many of the students were done, it seems like it was pretty easy. We also compared and rounded decimals which is also pretty easy. For English we are practicing working with possessive nouns.  In music we are working on note and rest value and how to draw them as well.

Work on LH second project

We had a nice day today. We took a math test and had some time to work on our science study guides. We also looked at helping verbs. They help verbs as it turns out. Sometimes these things make sense.

Have a lovely night.

Rough Draft day! Maybe not as exciting as draft day, but I am excited because I got almost all of the rough drafts on time! Now I have to find time to read them all of course. That will be the project right after report cards. Speaking of those, look for them on Friday.

Also, remember that your student has a second project to do for LH night. They should be working on that while they wait for their rough draft back.

Today we worked on coordinate planes in math. We did a few examples and got the idea pretty well. We also reviewed a few things before our test tomorrow. Tonight they may be looking over their pretest to make sure they know what to do. We also started reading a play adaptation of A Christmas Carol. We only had a few involved today, but that will grow as we go through the play. We also took a introductory look at Europe. Our prezis will start on Thursday.

We had a great study time today. It started off as a half hour to work on the rough draft, but they were working so well, I let it get longer! We also worked through a math pretest today in groups and then corrected it right away so that the students can learn from their mistakes before the test on Tuesday. We also wrote the verses of A Might Fortress.

Thursday is today! We took more time to work on our LH project today. We also spent some time talking about parts of the project. In math we worked on getting  fractions to have common denominators before we subtract them. We also took an extra credit surprise quiz for geography. For literature I finished going through their projects with them. Many were quite well done. A few students missed the idea a bit but are going to fix them up. It was neat to see which projects they picked and what the did with it.

HI! I emailed the parent teacher conference schedule to everyone. I also plan to send a paper copy home today as well. Let me know if you don't get one. Your children are encouraged, but not required, to come to 7th grade conferences. I am basically booked solid so we will have to work hard on staying on time. (So don't get me started talking about my children or I'll never make it!)

Today we took some more time to work on the Living History project. Remember that the rough draft is due on Monday. Just to clarify, I am looking at this rough draft to be as close to final as possible. It is often recommended that the first draft of a paper is all about getting the ideas on paper. You don't worry about punctuation and grammar and so on. That is great to do, but not what I am looking for on this. I plan to go through the papers fairly thoroughly and mark whatever I find that is incorrect or could be improved. Then I will give that back to the student to correct for their final copy that will be graded and on display for the Living History Night. So in that sense it might be more correct to think of this as the second or even third draft that gets handed in. As long as the students correct what I mark and work off of my suggestions, there shouldn't be any reason for them to get less than a B+ if not better on the final copy.

Welcome back! We have a faculty meeting so I need to be brief, but I did want to let you know that we had a nice block of study time today and had no geography assignment so that your students could work on their papers. Some chose to work on that here, others chose to finish their other work and then have time to work on the paper tonight. Please remind them to work on the paper if they chose that option and not let the night slide away without them working on it. Thanks!

Friday, October 10, 2014

Happy Friday! I sent home some paper copies of the email you got for Parent Teacher conferences. If you didn't have it in today, please get it to me on Monday. We hope to work on the schedules in faculty meeting. Officially we are going until 6 on that Monday and Tuesday, but I am planning on going later than that so that I can fit everyone in on Monday and Tuesday, especially if your 7th grader is your only student at Faith since we try to schedule all of students from one family back to back. (Or in my case back to back to back to back to back to back to back, ok I don't have THAT many kids)

Keep working at the Living History project. We skipped some classes today to have some time to work on it, especially notes and the outline. The rough draft is coming up soon, plus, remember that the students are to have another project from the sheet besides the paper.

Happy news by the way. We averaged an A- on the math test! Whoooo! Nice work students.

I have almost all of the field trip forms. Thanks for that.

Happy Thursday to you! Math test so we had no homework. Hopefully we did as well on this test as we did on the last. We also got our science tests corrected to day as well. Unfortunately, we didn't do as well as hoped on average considering we had all the questions and answers ahead of time.

Keep an eye Engrade. We still have some late work that needs to be handed in. I am working on correcting all the late work so you will be able to check on your student's progress.

Field trip forms were due today. Thanks to everyone who got them in on time. If you didn't yet, please get it in tomorrow along with the parent teacher conference form.

We had a sweet day today with a presentation about bee keeping and harvesting honey. There were samples! We took out science test today and then had a chunk of time to work on literature and living history. We started watching the movie version of Hatchet today as well. In addition, we spent the entire math period reviewing before our test tomorrow.

Field trip slips are due tomorrow and Parent Teacher slips are due by Friday.

Happy Tuesday to you. It looks beautiful out there and feels pretty good to! Science test tomorrow. In math we divided fractions. We are planning on a test for Thursday with some review tomorrow. In English we spent some time talking about outlines. I told the students that for Monday they need to have sub points. They may not have just four main points and that is it. There isn't a certain length but there needs to be enough to turn it into a four page plus paper.

A quick post on the notes. Approximately 85% of the class got some notes in today. Most all of those students got an A+ for doing so. Those who did not received a 0%. However, while most of the class got notes in, there were not nearly enough notes to write 4 plus pages on. We have a LOT of work to do yet and time is running out. Remember the outline is due on Monday.
I started my day of early with not one, but two dead computers! However, I manged to work around it and eventually got both working. Yea! That didn't stop us from talking about cultures in Latin America. Well, first we reviewed the key points from the last lesson, since we either worn't listening or forgot them since the first time around. (That was a week ago!) We also collected our notes for the Living History project. I will check them over to make sure your student is making progress. Remember the outline is due next Monday. Speaking of reminders, don't forget to get the field trip form back to school. Also, remember that the date is Nov. 5th not the 7th. In math we looked at reducing fractions part two. We learned what I call the shortcut method to reducing. It works quite well I think! We also corrected our science study guide. Many students completed it and did quite well.

BUSY BUSY day. We ran into a pond to escape mean people and climbed into a plane that was mostly underwater to get a survival pack, and that was all in the last hour of the day! Plus we traveled to Latin America and also reviewed borrowing when we subtract fractions. We also watched snails race, but that got too exciting so we had to stop watching before the end of the race.

A couple of quick notes on Parent Teacher conferences.

1. If your 7th grader is your only child at Faith, I will be happy to meet with you after 6 pm on Monday or Tuesday night. Please let me know.

2. Your child is invited to come along. If you need your child to babysit or he/she is unavailable that is OK, they are not required to come, but I do think it is valuable in most cases to have them along.

3.  I can meet with you on Wednesday if that is the only time that works for you, but otherwise I am happy to make Monday and Tuesday work.
Soccer game today! Will they stay dry? We are going to try! We knocked off a couple more tests today and just one little one left for tomorrow! Good job students!

Wednesday involved more testing, but we are getting though it. Today we took a series of math tests instead of having math class. That made the testing more bearable for the students. We also started a Prezi presentations. They are going fairly well. One tip is to make sure your student has at least the items mentioned on the guide sheet. Those are big ones I look for.
